His Excellency Dr. Christophe Eick, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Saint Kitts and Nevis, paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saint Kitts and Nevis, to strengthen bilateral ties and explore avenues of collaboration between the two nations.
In warmly welcoming Dr. Eick, Dr. Douglas underscored the enduring friendship and cooperation between Germany and Saint Kitts and Nevis and expressed optimism for further deepening of relations and cooperation.
Both representatives, who were at the recently concluded 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States held in Antigua and Barbuda, highlighted the importance of such a meeting. Foreign Minister Douglas spoke to the significance of the Federation’s Sustainable Island State Agenda and how the spirit of this agenda resonated deeply with other delegations in attendance. Dr. Douglas expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the conference and stressed the importance of continued collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by island nations in the context of climate change and sustainable development.
Ambassador Eick echoed Dr. Douglas’ sentiments, affirming Germany’s commitment to supporting the efforts of Small Island Developing States in combating climate change and promoting sustainable development. He expressed Germany’s readiness to explore areas of cooperation with Saint Kitts and Nevis, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, capacity building, and climate resilience.
