The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saint Kitts and Nevis wishes to inform the public of important guidance received from the United States Embassy in Barbados, regarding U.S. immigration enforcement and entry protocols. Citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis are strongly advised to take note of the following key points to avoid legal consequences when traveling to or residing in the United States:
- Strict Enforcement of Immigration Laws: The U.S. Government continues to prioritize enforcement of immigration laws, particularly against individuals who enter or remain in the country illegally. Violations may result in arrest, fines, lengthy incarceration, deportation, and potential permanent bans on future travel to the United States.
- No Automatic Right to Remain: Foreign nationals who overstay their authorized period of stay or violate the conditions of their admission face serious legal consequences.
- Opportunity for Voluntary Departure: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has introduced a voluntary departure program for individuals unlawfully present in the U.S. Depending on the case, financial and other support may be provided for departure. Interested individuals must register via the CBP Home App: www.dhs.gov/cbphome.
- Visa Revocation for Violations: Individuals who are arrested, break U.S. laws, or abuse visa terms may have their visa revoked and be subject to deportation.
- Crackdown on Facilitators of Illegal Immigration: The U.S. Government has implemented new visa restrictions against foreign officials and others who facilitate illegal immigration or human smuggling. Governments that do not cooperate with the repatriation of their nationals may also face broad travel restrictions.
- No Tolerance for Illegal Entry: While the United States continues to welcome legitimate travelers, it has made clear that illegal entry, visa abuse, and non-compliance with immigration laws will not be tolerated.
The United States has requested that this information be disseminated through appropriate channels to ensure that nationals are aware of the serious legal risks associated with violating U.S. immigration policies.
The Ministry urges all citizens to travel responsibly, respect immigration laws, and ensure full compliance with entry and stay requirements when visiting or residing in the United States.
