
Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis (13 October 2025) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, received a heartfelt farewell courtesy call from His Excellency David Rivero Perez, the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, on Friday 10th October 2025.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marked the conclusion of Ambassador Perez’s mission, during which he contributed significantly to advancing the bilateral relationship between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Cuba, which was established approximately three decades ago. Minister Douglas expressed profound gratitude and appreciation for the Ambassador’s tenure, noting his role in cementing the ties of friendship, solidarity, and mutual respect between the two Caribbean nations.
The Minister particularly highlighted the ongoing cooperation in key developmental areas such as health, pinpointing the invaluable presence of the Cuban Medical Brigades, which have provided specialized care and critical support for citizens and residents alike. Cuba has also been an excellent partner in the area of education, as its scholarship program has educated over 150 Kittitian and Nevisian professionals, including the Federation’s current Prime Minister.
Ambassador Perez thanked Minister Douglas and the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis for the unwavering support extended to the Cuban people, particularly the Federation’s strong position in the international arena, calling for the lifting of the U.S. economic, commercial, and the financial blockade against Cuba.
Both officials reaffirmed the commitment of their respective nations to further deepening their cooperation and collaboration within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and other international fora. Minister Douglas wished Ambassador Rivero Perez the very best in his future endeavors and indicated that the bonds of friendship forged through decades of cooperation will continue to flourish.
