With respect to the repatriation of a body globally to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, it is necessary that the funeral home/director overseas, contact a local funeral director/home within the Federation.

Copies of the mentioned documents below should be notarized and forwarded to the local funeral director, who would then process the documents, through the Ministry of Health, via the Basseterre Health Centre.

Please be advised of the requisite documents:

  1. Original copy of the Death Certificate
  2. Embalming Certificate
  3. Burial transit permit
  4. Human remains shipping information that would specify the date and time of arrival of the deceased and the Airline
  5. Government Issued Photo ID of the deceased
  6. Free from Infection and disease certificate
  7. Coffin sealing certificate.

Procedure for Human Remains/ Corpse to be brought into the Federation of St. Kitts & Nevis

All persons seeking Burial Transit Permit for transporting of human remains (ashes) into the Federation should provide the following:

  1. Death Certificate (notarized)
  2. Embalming Certificate/ Cremation Certificate (notarized)
  3. Burial Transit Permit (notarized)
  4. Human remains shipping information (notarized)
  5. Photo ID (usually issued by government authorities such as a passport or driver’s license)

Kindly note that ashes and all supporting documents MUST accompany the person traveling with the ashes in their hand luggage.  The ashes should not be transported in checked luggage.
