The Civil Aviation Division within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Aviation in collaboration with Customs and Excise Department conducted an Air Cargo and Mail Screening course from 22nd to 26th March, 2021.

The aim of this course was to sensitize and equip officers responsible for the screening of cargo and mail with the required skills and competencies to execute their screening functions correctly and professionally. Mr. Royston Griffin and Mr. Arthnel Jordon, Aviation Inspectors/Instructors within the federation were the facilitators. A total of 17 participants attended, 15 Customs Officers and 2 representatives of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA).

The course commenced with an introduction to the security culture. Over the course of the 5 days, topics discussed included cargo security in context, air cargo supply chain, security control, cargo screening, cargo chain of custody, oversight compliance, quality control, security of mail and restricted articles, and dangerous goods.

An exam, administered at the end of the course, revealed the participants’ satisfactory comprehension of their roles and responsibilities. The week’s exercise culminated in a closing ceremony and distribution of certificates.
